We are delighted to bring you a fun 6-a-side Men’s and 6-a-side Women’s tournament to dust off the cobwebs and get ready for the year ahead! This an ideal event to help introduce new players to the competitive game as we’ll be encouraging teams to mix up abilities.
Venue: Stepps Playing Fields, 15 Ave End Rd, Millerston, Glasgow, G33 6ND
Date: Saturday 4th October 2025
Time: 0930-1700. Exact timings will be released after entries close
Eligibility: Mixed-ability teams from SSS-affiliated Scottish universities and colleges are eligible to enter as per our Terms and Conditions. Teams should be an even mix of experience and inexperienced players, and a maximum of 8 (6 players and 2 subs)
- An ‘experienced’ player is someone who has played shinty (for a club or student club) for more than 2 years
- An ‘inexperienced player’ is someone who has played shinty for less than 2 years
Format: Round Robin – group stages then progression to semi-finals and finals (exact format will be released after entries close)
Cost: £45 per team (~ £5.50 per person)
Entries: One person should enter the teams on Playwaze so the players can ‘join’ them. All players entering the event must be registered students and listed as a player on the SSS Playwaze tournament page. Please click HERE for a ‘How To’ Guide for how to use the SSS Playwaze system
Entry Deadline: 23:59 on Thursday 25th September
Payment: Invoices will be distributed to Sports Unions on behalf of teams following the entry closing date.
Pre-event information - PLEASE READ:
- Squads should be a maximum of 8 (6 and 2 subs) and mixed ability
- The tournament draw will be released following entries closing
- Please note that the Shinty Chair may require additional goals and will be in touch to ask for your assistance with this
- The event will take place on grass football pitches, so please bring appropriate footwear
- Please note that all clubs will be asked to name a referee per team entered to help referee the matches
- HELMETS – All players should wear a helmet if at all possible. Helmets worn should be compliant to the guidance provide by the Camanachd Association found HERE. If you plan to wear a non-compliant helmet, you will need to print, sign and scan a waiver to roddy.young@shinty.com in advance of the event
- Please be aware that clubs must ensure all players complete the Camanachd Association Player Declaration Form in order to participate safely under the governing body’s regulations. More details will be circulated by the SS Shinty Chair on Basecamp and via email
