SS Judo are delighted to bring back the Kyu Grade Tournament!
Date: 23rd November 2025
Venue: St Maurice's High School, Cumbernauld
Eligibility: Open to all senior players who are at least 16 years old and who are 2nd kyu and below, including novice (white belt) grades as long as they have a valid full license on the day.
All SSS-affiliated Scottish university and college students are eligible as per our Terms and Conditions.
Any competitor not from a SSS-affiliated institution may enter as a guest as per our Terms and Conditions. Please note, when entering you may be asked to choose an institution to affiliate to. Please select any from the list and we will remove this manually from the admin side. Your entry will still be noted as a guest.
Weight
All competitors will be weighed in and categories will be made to suit pools where possible.
Categories:
-60kg, -66kg, -73kg, -81kg, -90kg -100kg, +100kg
-48kg, -52kg, -57kg, -63kg, -70kg, -78kg, +78kg
Novice (white belt) to 5th kyu (yellow belt)
4th kyu (orange belt) to 2nd kyu (blue belt)
NOTE: Weights/categories may be combined based on entry.
Entry Cost: £25 Student Entry, £28 Guest (Non-Student) Entry. All entries are subject to the SSS Event Terms and Conditions
Entry Deadline: midday on Wednesday 12th November 2025. No late entries will be accepted.
Payment: All entries will be invoiced to your club following the entry deadline. Please ensure you notify your club captain and Sports Union of your entry before this date.

We highly recommend novice to 5th kyu players attend early to watch the 4th kyu to 2nd kyu categories.
Weigh-in will be open with the following allowances.
All competitors must wear contest judogi trousers to weigh-in.
A Saturday weigh-in will be available for players who help lay the mats, when setup is complete. Weigh-in allowances will be inline with the current Tournament Handbook for an open weigh-in.

Rules:
- General
This is a Level 2 licensed British Judo event. By entering and/or attending this event you agree to abide by all British Judo Association policies and codes of conduct. This includes but is not limited to:
Please note that failure to comply with these policies and codes of conduct may result in not being able to compete/attend this event, or removal from the event, and notification to the British Judo Association.
- Judogi
Competitors may compete in any colour of judogi as long as it fits in accordance with the current BJA contest rules on judogi control. Players should bring their own blue & white belts if possible.
All players may opt to wear a t-shirt under their judogi. The t-shirt must comply with the current BJA judogi control rules, although non-white t-shirts will be accepted.
- Technical Restrictions
Novice to 5th Kyu – No strangles & Armlocks
No other technical restrictions will apply
- Coaching
Permitted throughout and positive encouragement for all players is welcome.
Officials:
Trainee officials will be used for this event under supervision. Please be conscious of this and make every effort to encourage their participation. Any player not eligible to compete is welcome to try refereeing/timekeeping on the day, please let us know in advance if you are bringing any such players.
Special note for Scottish Student clubs:
Referee / Table Official training is available through the judo chair at Scottish Student Sport. Please contact Paul (scotstujudo@gmail.com) if you would like training at your club.
Medals:
Medals will be awarded as follows:
2 Gold only
3 Gold / Silver
4 Gold / Silver / Bronze
5+ Gold / Silver / Bronze / Bronze
Medals will be awarded in the category competed in, and only if a contest has been won.
General:
- Video recording of some contests may take place at this event; photographs may also be taken for promotional purposes including publication on websites and social media. In accordance with Scottish Student Sport policies, by entering the venue you indicate your acceptance of these conditions, in the absence of any expressed objection. If you wish to object, please make the Tournament Organiser aware in advance or on the day
- The Decision of the Tournament Organiser is final
- The JudoScotland/BJA Child Protection Policy will be used at this event
- All information supplied will only be used for event organisation purposes and names/clubs will be published in advance of the event
