Good Evening,
Please be advised of the latest update released by BAFA regarding Flag Football. This includes instructions on how to sign up for this year's town hall event.
As part of our Flag Officiating improvement strategy we launched classroom sessions to assist those who wish for clarity and to learn/improve. There was strong feedback from the community that such sessions would be beneficial, however having operated these for 6 months and seen both low attendance and engagement from the community over the course of that time, please be advised that we have made the decision not to operate any future sessions as energy and efforts can instead be invested elsewhere.
For everyone's awareness, all remaining All Region programme sessions are now available for players to book onto. The All Region programme is free to attend for all BAFA members as a benefit of their membership and this year we are opening the Programme up to all BAFA members and players - Adult, Women's and Youth (approved to play in 17U only). To sign up, please book onto the relevant date found in the activities section of Playwaze and please be advised that U18s should attend with a guardian.
What's the purpose of the All Region programme?
To create a semi-local/regional hub for the development of players and coaches. Providing a step up from standard competition/league play and exposing them to GB calibre talent, scouting and expectations. The aim is to uplift individual playing capability across the country, create a platform for knowledge sharing and a sense of community and give access to largely inaccessible resources for the benefit of everyone in the hope that players take their learnings back to their clubs thereby further advancing the sport across the country. The All Region programme will culminate in an inter-region competition on September 23rd with teams selected from individuals who have participated in the programme during the year.
We hope that most of the community will take advantage of these opportunities. The greater the attendance, competition and support - the greater we will make the game together as we look ahead to 2028.
For everyone's awareness!
On Sunday 23 April at 3pm, the government is going to test the Emergency Alert system. This will send a signal to most mobile phones that will involve a loud siren-like sound.
Given the timing there may be some disruption to games and activity on Sunday. Disruption can be minimised by asking players, coaches, sideline staff and officials to turn their phones off completely before the game, where they can. (Note that setting a phone to silent won't be enough.)
However, there may still be distractions from phones belonging to spectators or left in bags in the team area. Referees are authorised to call a brief referee's timeout when the alert goes off while people attend to their devices.
Hopefully the disruption to games will be slight, but being prepared will help.
